Food Services Overview
We Serve Education -- Every Day
Jackson County Public Schools Food service is one of the 96,000 school districts participating in the National School Lunch Program (established in 1946) and one of the 72,000 districts participating in the School Breakfast Program (established in 1966). We are one of two districts which operate a Universal/Provision 2 Feeding Program whereby all our students receive a free breakfast and lunch regardless of family income.
The NSLP and NSBP are federally assisted meal programs providing nutritionally balanced low-cost or free meals to students each school day. School districts that choose to take part in the program receive cash subsidies and donated commodities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for each student they serve.
In the school year 2005-2006, the Jackson County Public School Food Service served 333,292 student lunches; 236,900 student breakfasts, and received $944,764 in federal reimbursement. We served 6,882 after school snacks and received $4,131.00 in federal reimbursement.
