Sub Bus Drivers Needed

Jackson County Public Schools, the surrounding districts, including the larger surrounding districts, struggle to maintain enough substitute bus drivers.  The Jackson County Board of Education did something very innovative at the April 21, 2015 Regular Board Meeting to help address the situation.  The board approved the Jackson County Public School’s New Sub Bus Driver Incentive Program.

  1. The incentive program applies to potential new sub-bus drivers who will be enrolled in the JCPS Driver Training Program only

  2. JCPS will pay for the criminal background check

  3. JCPS will pay for an initial physical not to exceed $95.00

  4. Upon full-completion of their training program and being available to drive for thirty (30) work days after they receive their license, the new sub-bus driver will receive a one-time $100.00 training stipend

By removing some of the initial costs associated with enrolling in the training program, hopefully more potential sub drivers will enroll in the training program.  Jackson County Public Schools has an outstanding bus driver training program that is facilitated by driver/trainers Kathy Spurlock and Richard Lakes.  Both are very thorough and do an exceptional job training our present and future bus drivers.

JCHS Drama Presents "The Glass Menagerie"

Mr. Baldwin is inviting everyone to come out to JCHS Drama Club's production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.  They have been working on the show since February and believe it showcases the kind of growth they have made in the last year towards building a stronger theatre program at the JCHS.  They have two evening performances scheduled for the general public; opening night will be Tuesday, May 12th at 6:00 P.M. with a second show on Thursday, May 14th at 6:00 P.M.  There will be an admission of $5.00 for both shows.

Teleworks and JCHS Student Sara Nunn

At a recent open house of Teleworks USA in Annville, JCHS senior Sara Nunn was highlighted as a success story of the organization.  Teleworks trains and places individuals into “work from home” jobs that make use of the high speed Internet made possible by PRTC’s Fiber-to-the-Home.  Sara completed training with Teleworks and now works 32 hours per week from home as a customer service representative of the U-Haul Company.  Her work schedule is, in addition to a full schedule of classes at JCHS.  Sara has already completed several college hours through the EKU Now program and plans to use the money that she is currently earning to assist in paying expenses as she works toward a nursing degree at EKU.
